We can meet over the phone or via secure video, to determine fit. I can answer any questions you may have about psychotherapy and my style.
The brain and body have interconnected, built-in survival responses that protect us when we face threats, helplessness and/or traumatic experiences.
Generally when the threat has passed our brain/body responses shift back into normal gear. However, sometimes our brain/body gets stuck in survival response gear. Being stuck this way changes our physical brains, which also changes our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. This is what manifests as the effects of trauma, and which alters our relationships with ourselves, others and the world.
Brains and bodies are designed to heal. Trauma treatment supports that process, so the brain/body can shift back into normal gear. I use Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), primarily, as it is a unique therapy that targets difficult memories and changes the way they are held in the brain/body, such that the brain/body knows those events are over, and its safe to move forward with life.
Registered Marriage & Family Therapists are uniquely able to help people work through challenges in life's most precious relationships because we are trained see individuals and their relationship constellations simultaneously.
CAMFT Approved Supervisors are experienced psychotherapists, who then take specialized training in clinical supervision of couple & family therapy. My psychotherapy practice has been wide ranging, and I bring this knowledge base to supervision and consultation.
I have trained and supervised novice counsellors, social workers, and psychotherapists in a variety treatment settings for over a decade.
From the moment we are born, we are shaped by our key relationships. They mold our developing brains, framing how we see ourselves, others and the world. As an experienced couple and family therapist who is also trained in trauma treatment, I can help you understand how the past has shaped the present, helping you to resolve those hurts. And I can help you find new and more satisfying ways to be in your relationships now.
